BIG PINE, Inyo County — Inyo County’s public solid-waste directory lists a local transfer station for Big Pine residents, but its schedule is much more limited than a daily landfill.
The county’s Solid Waste page lists the Big Pine Transfer Station as open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays. It identifies the site at the south end of Big Pine, on the west side of U.S. Highway 395, off Big Pine Dump Road. The county recycling page repeats the same operating days and hours.
What residents should verify
Before hauling material, check what the station currently accepts, the costs for different load types, payment options and whether any material requires a separate disposal location. A transfer station listing does not imply that hazardous waste, appliances, e-waste or commercial loads will be accepted without restriction.
County waste-service information is administered through the Solid Waste office in Bishop, which lists 760-873-7191 for questions. The county also identifies recycling resources and special collection information on its solid-waste site.
Why the schedule matters
A resident who arrives on a Wednesday or Sunday based on expectations from a larger city may find the Big Pine station closed. Organizing a load in advance, securing it during transport and checking county holiday changes can prevent a wasted trip.
